Director's Message

Your Service Delivery Team (SDT) has been working very hard to make this Region 1 Fall Conference a pleasant learning and networking experience. Recently, the team gathered with other leaders from Washington State PTA at the Leadership Conference in Olympia. We were treated to two days of learning how to best serve our councils, local units and members. In addition, we learned marketing techniques and how to reach out to those who might not quite get the wonders of PTA. And we were given an hour and a half to meet as a team.

That time was spent finalizing plans for this training AND developing our goals as a Region for this year. As always, we are here to serve you but we will concentrate our focus on three areas.

OUTREACH – Make a concerted effort to support inclusion of:

1. Promoting and researching the possibility of a South Kitsap Council

2. Providing continued assistance to existing councils

3. Supplying educational and PTA information and support to military families

ADVOCACY – Increase awareness of and opportunities for advocacy

1. Candidates Forum – Sept. 17 – 7-9pm – North Kitsap Community Auditorium

2. Legislative Roundtable – Nov. 6 – Bremerton High School Commons

3. New & Improved Legislative Assembly – Oct. 3&4, SeaTac Marriot

RELEVANCE – Emphasize benefits PTA offers its members

1. Provide answers to “What meaning does PTA have for me?”

2. Provide answers to the same question regarding Region 1 SDT

3. Lend the helping hand that puts those benefits into action

By chance, these three focal points spell out OAR and we as the SDT hope to be the assistance that paddles your boat known as PTA. As individual leaders you will still guide the direction of the boat, provide the oarsmen and control the speed. Together we can make the 2008-2009 PTA year a success.
