Northshore parent Robin Zaback testified on behalf of WSPTA January 30, 2019, in support of SB 5315, which would increase the ratios of nurses, social workers, guidance counselors and school psychologists in schools, starting with districts above 50% eligibility of students in the Free or Reduced Price Meals program. Robin asked for one change – to also increase the staffing ratios in high-needs high schools. The bill is aligned with WSPTA’s Top 5 priority Strategic K-12 Investments to Close Gaps.
Robin also testified in favor of the comprehensive school safety bill, SB 5317, commending the bill to the committee and asking them to specify that one of the school safety drills also include a parent/student reunification drill. Committee Chair Lisa Wellman, D-Mercer Island, thanked Robin for that suggestion.
