Our 2019-2021 term is off to a great start, and I’m really excited about all the terrific things we’re working on!
As Andrew mentioned in his recent blog post, we started off the year with a board retreat on May 31 and June 1 in Redmond. I’ve been to a lot of awesome retreats, but this one was really unique. I’m so proud of the 2019-2020 operational plan that our staff and board worked to create together. Andrew led all of us through a day-long process of identifying and agreeing upon four main goals for our association. We dug deep and thought outside the box as we defined what these projects would require to be successful by May 31, 2020. Each person self-selected a task they wanted to work on, and we developed two SMART goals to achieve per quarter. Other key individuals will be included in this work moving forward so that we include the best information and ideas from our wide pool of subject area experts.
Our 2019-2020 operation plan includes these four goals:
- Increase Training and Resources
- Increase and Diversify Membership
- Improve Service Delivery
- Increase Perceived Value
From June 18 – 23, I attended the National PTA Convention in Columbus, Ohio. Washington State PTA was well represented during the business meetings, and we had a really fun time together as a delegation! I was excited to co-present a class called “Guide PTAs with Missing Money” with Vice President Julie Haase. I’ll be repeating that class at our annual Leadership Conference with Finance Officer Nancy Chamberlain.
The first week of August starts out with a Region Director Retreat, Leadership Conference, and our summer Board of Directors’ meeting. We are putting the finishing touches on these leadership development and governance activities. These activities are sure to connect leaders to resources and information that will set up the association for another robust year.
Enjoy the summer sunshine!
