August 2019 – WSPTA Executive Director Message

Dear Members,

As you are probably aware, our membership database is about to change. About 5 years ago Washington State PTA switched to PT Avenue from the prior database program. This was a dramatic change for both the state office and for local PTA leadership. Some of the results were great, some not so good. Local leaders had more control and easier access over your membership lists which certainly was an improvement. WSPTA strives to continue improving our services to members and I believe that our new database will be even easier for you and all our members. Joining a PTA will be as easy as joining Netflix. And, the administrative interface for local PTA leaders will be much, much easier to use.

We have been very focused on this transition. The office staff (including me) are all being trained on the system so that we can help you. We want this to be as smooth and easy as possible. We will be working closely with you and other local PTA leaders to make sure your membership data is correct. We will also help you to get the most out of memberplanet. As you may know from the Convention, it has great features you will probably want to dive into after the initial dust settles. Together we can make this a very successful change.

In addition to our work with the new member database, we spent July laying groundwork for the coming year. Staff and volunteer leaders are working hand-in-hand to ensure a successful program year. Planning for the Legislative Assembly in October is well underway. Planning has also started on the Convention in May. Meanwhile, closer to (your) home, several region conferences are also being planned.

In less than a month schools across the state will be opening and PTAs will have their first meetings. Membership drives will begin. Fundraising and fun-raising activities and events will be planned. You can count on us, here in the Tacoma office, to help and support you as you begin the 2019-2020 year. Let us know what you need.

Stay cool!
