Central Kitsap High PTSA One of Five Nationally to Earn NPTA Flash Funding

Congratulations to Central Kitsap High School PTSA 1.3.50 in Silverdale for being one of five PTAs across the country to receive “flash funding” from National PTA. GoFundMe enabled the local PTAs to receive the surprise funding during PTA Teacher Appreciation Week after reviewing narratives from a number of PTAs. Congratulations especially to Principal Stephen Coons and PTSA Co-Presidents Candy Walters & Angel Hall.

See an edited version below of what was submitted on behalf of the Central Kitsap High School PTSA:

This high school PTSA stands out for doing so many different and wonderful things in support of the teachers, students, and entire school community. This PTSA works diligently to avoid ‘competing’ for dollars with the sports booster clubs and many other groups fundraising within the school – which means the PTSA is never able to raise as much as they truly need to achieve all their goals. The PTSA has a tradition of hosting a ‘Testing Breakfast’ which provides breakfast and healthy snack items before school to students taking part in the state standard testing. Research has shown that students who have had breakfast perform significantly better on such assessments.

The PTSA also celebrates the efforts of all Central Kitsap High School employees to create a positive learning environment for students, and staff appreciation activities are intended for all staff – not just a select few. Recognizing that it can be hard for staff members to go home and have dinner before the school’s Open House, the PTSA provides a homemade soup supper that night. Wellness kits, which include tissues and hand sanitizer, are provided to all classrooms and offices during the cold and flu season. Every spring the PTSA coordinates activities for a Staff Appreciation Week.”
