Month-by-Month Board To-Do List
Welcome to the new PTA year! PTA’s fiscal year runs July 1 – June 30. Each month we will post monthly task lists for you to use that will help develop your calendar for the year. The dates listed reflect best practices.
Ongoing Tasks
- Attend board and membership meetings
- Read meeting minutes and offer corrections
- Prepare reports for board and membership meetings
- Get educated: take advantage of in-person and online training opportunities
- Be familiar with your responsibilities and fulfill them
- Review and ask questions about the monthly financial report
- Actively engage in a plan for membership growth
- Prepare content for newsletter(s) and social media
- Review and update your website
- Participate, help others, and communicate
- Review the Standards of Affiliation Checklist
Monthly Tasks
Financial Review
Complete a year-end financial review.
Change bank account signers
Make an appointment at the bank to change account signers. Verify their process and necessary documents in advance.
Change officers on the Secretary of State’s Corporation website (if applicable)
Update all passwords for online accounts after July 1
Plan a board retreat
Register to attend the August Leadership Launch (A.L.L.) August 23-24, 2024
This year’s virtual conference will focus on providing new leaders the training they need to launch a great school year for their PTA!
Plan to attend the Second Washington State PTA Day at the Park with our Seattle Mariners on August 25
Review the newly amended WSPTA Uniform Bylaws

Review the WSPTA Policy Manual
In particular, Section Three Local PTAs and Councils, is a great resource for PTAs to understand the policies that govern each affiliated organization.
Update job descriptions for board positions
Update contact information on websites, social media, and with the school or district
Complete the memberplanet End of Year checklist Please also use memberplanet to report your newly elected 2024-2025 officers.
Get caught up with the transitions to Givebacks. View recording for the webinars as well as links to tutorials.
If you have not already, book your 1:1 onboarding meeting with Givebacks.
Review and update the legal documents notebook(s)
Review material to go in the first day packets or summer mailers
Do prep work, such as printing or converting to digital format.
Prepare to launch your fall membership drive
Review your membership form, set your theme, decide on any benefits and how will you recognize members, and announce goals. If you haven’t set up an online join feature now is the time to start working on that function.
Board members should begin to plan which training(s) to participate in to meet the WSPTA Standards of Affiliation requirements

Gather commitments from volunteers.
Was your PTA incorporated in July?
If so, then your annual Corporation Renewal is due by July 31. The annual corporation report is due regardless of your PTA’s annual income and is separate from the Charitable Organization Registration/Renewal. This is where you update your officers, most banks use this information when looking for your signers.
Do you need to update the signers with your bank?
If you need to update your signers with your bank you will need to file, the Amended Annual report with the Secretary of State’s office.
