Utilizing WSPTA Programs Virtually

Student Programs

WSPTA has many great programs to offer students. These are all programs that students can actively work on both at school and at home.

Reflections
The Reflections program is a National PTA art contest that students in grades K-12 can participate in along with other students from their community, from the state, and from across the country. This contest is based on a theme and this year’s theme is “I Matter Because….”. The seven categories with details regarding submission requirements are located on the website at https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/reflections/. This information will continue to be updated as more information and resources become available. Entries are due January 22, 2021.

WSPTA//Game Development Competition
The game development program is a contest for grades 7-12 (grades 7-8 must participate on a team that has students in grade 9 or older).  This program has students developing a computer game around a theme; students can participate as an individual or as part of a team. This year’s theme is “Hope” and due to a generous grant, this program has prizes that are awarded to the top placing individuals or teams. You can find more information at https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/game-competition/.

Essay Contest
The WSPTA Essay Contest is for grades K-12. This contest gives students an opportunity to express their appreciation for someone who has been a positive role model in their lives. The essay is no more than 650 words; you can find more information at https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/pta-essay-contest/.

Scholarship
The last student program WSPTA offers is the scholarship program. Each year four scholarships are awarded to seniors in Washington state. You can find more information at https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/scholarship-program/.

The WSPTA//Game Development Competition, Essay Contest, and Scholarship entries are due March 1, 2021. Details and forms will continue to be updated and posted to the WSPTA website through the fall.

PTA Awards

WSPTA also gives PTAs and their leaders an opportunity to show their accomplishments throughout the year.

Leadership Service Award
Individual PTA leaders can apply for the Leadership Service Award (formerly Leadership Academy).  This award has four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Crystal, and gives PTA leaders the opportunity to be acknowledged for the volunteer service they have done in the PTA. You can find form information at https://www.wastatepta.org/pta-leaders/leadership-academy/.

Awards of Excellence
PTAs can also show what they have done by applying for Awards of Excellence. Awards of Excellence let PTAs share about their newsletters, websites, communication, advocacy, FACE, and much more. You can find more information at https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/awards/excellence/.

Applications for both the Leadership Service Award and Awards of Excellence are due March 15, 2021. Details and forms will continue to be updated and posted to the WSPTA website through the fall.
