November 2019 – WSPTA Executive Director Message

Dear Members,

As the song goes, the days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting longer. We are midway through autumn – that crazy season of wet, warm, blustery days alternating with beautifully sunny but cold days. This has always been my favorite time of year. I loved school growing up and by now would be hip deep in my studies. (Can you say, “nerd?”)

This is a very busy time for you as PTA leaders. You have likely been through some Washington State PTA training at a region conference or in a webinar. You have probably had your first fundraiser and are planning some kind of year-end or holiday event. Meanwhile, you are busy with your work and home lives may be doing the same sort of party or event planning.

Know that we are here for you when all your planning goes off track. Sometimes the unexpected, or the pressures of the expected, can just be too much. The state team, volunteers and staff, exist to support you. If you get into a jam and need help, be sure to reach out to your council, region service delivery team, the WSPTA board of directors, or to us at the office. We will have answers.

My thoughts turn to Thanksgiving and gratitude this time of year. I am an exceedingly fortunate man and grateful for all that I have in my life. I am thankful for you and all of our PTA leaders and members. I am also very grateful for our staff and all their hard work. I am particularly grateful for the Washington State PTA Board of Directors. They are an amazing group of leaders who give thousands of hours per year to help us all realize our vision of giving every child a voice.

Have a joyous Thanksgiving!

Andrew L. Estep
WSPTA Executive Director
